Omar ‘Oms’ hopkinson

Omar Hopkinson, known as ‘Oms’ (p. ōh-mz) is an award winning contemporary artist who currently specializes in large scale painting with a concentration on abstract forms and abstract impressionism. His artwork focuses on observed societal reflections and tells the stories of the inner self, while highlighting the black experience as he sees it through colour, symbolism and imagery. Hopkinson is a widely celebrated artist who classically trained at the Ontario College of Art and Design.

With an early career that spawned from the live art and mural space movement in the mid-late 90s, he has gradually transitioned from bringing  the streets to the studio to now his studio to the gallery. Omar has worked with brands such as Foot Locker and Adidas in various activations, as well as Not-for-profit organizations such as the United Way. He uses his creative career as a conduit to amplify the voices of the unheard, and while continuing to invest and expand his studio practice, he ensures to connect his creativity to the voices of underrepresented communities.

He has held professional appointments on Arts Milton Board of Directors, The Town Milton's Culture Planning Committee, and has facilitated and led creative workshops and installations within the Toronto, York, Peel, and Halton District School Boards. Currently he serves as Vice Chair with Mural Routes and is also Creative Strategist with The Noir Experience (A collective providing high end dining experiences showcasing the cuisine of the black diaspora).
